Description

Because of time constraints, I have abandoned development of this particular widget. There is a football/basketball (not all-sport) Florida widget available here. If you want to assume development of this widget, contact me and I will send you the code I have completed.

All widgets have been tested on both Windows XP and OSX. Windows/OSX logo

Displays the following information about the University of Florida schedule for the selected year for the selected sport:
  • Day/Date
  • Opponent
  • Where the game is being played
  • Course (golf only)
  • Host (golf only)
  • Time
  • TV station that will broadcast the game
  • Radio station that will broadcast the game
  • Outcome of the game

For football, men's basketball, and women's basketball, the view can toggle between the schedule and the conference standings via the context menu, which is accessed via right-clicking (Windows) or CTRL-clicking (Mac) on the widget. When viewing conference standings, there are only 3 columns and all columns are displayed. In Standings view, the next and previous buttons in the title line will cycle through all the conferences. You may also jump directly to a conference from the "Jump to Conference >> Conference Name" context menu item, which is accessed via right-clicking (Windows) or CTRL-clicking (Mac) on the widget. This menu item is only available when you are viewing the standings.

The following sports are supported:
  • Baseball
  • Men's Basketball
  • Women's Basketball
  • Men's Cross Country
  • Women's Cross Country
  • Men's Golf
  • Women's Golf
  • Gymnastics
  • Soccer
  • Softball
  • Men's Swimming & Diving
  • Women's Swimming & Diving
  • Men's Tennis
  • Women's Tennis
  • Men's Track & Field
  • Women's Track & Field
  • Volleyball

Schedule will update as times and scores become available. By default, data is refreshed when the widget is loaded, when you select "Refresh" from the context menu, and when you save your Preferences. You may also, via the Preferences, set the data to refresh when the schedule is maximized.

You may also choose the year for which to display schedule or conference information. Currently, there is schedule information for 1998-2005, and conference information for 2001-2005. You can make 2 copies of the widget and set one to display the 2004 schedule, and one to display the 2005 schedule. Use the next and previous buttons to cycle through the years. These buttons are hidden until the mouse rolls over the widget, so if you're wondering where they are, move your mouse over the schedule and look in the lower left (or right, depending on your logo location) of the widget.

USA Today, AP, and BCS ranks may also be displayed for football, men's basketball, and women's basketball for the current season only. BCS ranks, obviously, are only displayed for football.

Data is scraped from http://www.gatorzone.com.

Columns displayed and background opacity are configurable.

Logo position and size (starting with version 2.1.1) are configurable. The logo can be placed at any of the corners, allowing you to align the widget against any edge of the screen.

Double-click the logo to minimize or expand the schedule. You may also click on the minus and plus images to minimize or expand the schedule.

Hovering over the logo will display the "Last Updated" time in a tooltip.

Time zone is configurable. Options include: Eastern Time (default), Central Time (Eastern Time - 1 hr), Mountain Time (Eastern Time - 2 hrs), Pacific Time (Eastern Time - 3 hrs), Alaska Time (Eastern Time - 4 hrs), and Hawaii-Aleutian Time (Eastern Time - 5 hrs). The time zone feature is geared towards U.S. time zones. Since I doubt people outside the US will run a widget that shows U.S. tv stations for an American sport, I have no plans to expand this functionality.

From the Preferences window, you can tell the widget to check for a newer version on startup. You can also check for updates by selecting "Check for newer version" from the context menu.

Since it scrapes data from a live web page, this widget will break if that web page changes its format. I'm, uh, not really a sports fan. With the exception of my Georgia Tech and Redskins widgets, I don't run any of my sports widgets. If something is broken, please contact me and I will attempt to fix it.

Known Issues with the Beta Version
  • If you were using the original UF Football widget, none your color/font settings will be transferred to this widget.
  • All sports except for football and cross country display games/meets on a monthly basis. The next/previous buttons will cycle through the months for these "monthly display" sports and cycle through the years for football and cross country.
  • When using the next/previous buttons, my other "monthly display" widgets loop through the months for which there are games. For example, the NHL widget is set to display data for September - June, and if you hit the "next" button while viewing June, the display will jump to September. However, since this widget covers all sports, there is no restriction on months displayed and clicking next or previous will display the next or previous month regardless of whether or not games/meets are actually scheduled for that month.
  • For my other college widgets, the current season record is displayed in the dock. For this widget, the record for the selected display year, which is chosen via the preferences or the next/previous buttons for a "yearly schedule" sport, is shown in the dock.
  • Conference standings can only be viewed for football and basketball.
  • Sometimes, the first character in for "TV" or "Radio" will be a comma (",").
If the Beta Version Doesn't Load Properly
  1. Click on the Preferences icon, which is that "gears" icon, for the UF widget in the Yahoo! dock. If your dock isn't showing, select the Yahoo! icon from the system tray (Windows) or menu extras (Mac) and click "Open Dock".
  2. Then go to the General section and select "Restore default preferences on startup".
  3. Restart the Yahoo! Widget Engine.

  • To the fine people behind www.ajaxload.info, which I used to generate the new (well, new in August 2007) "loading" graphic that is optionally displayed when data is being retrieved
  • To Hernan Londono and Christopher Johnson for beta-testing
  • To Marc Oburg for his idea about the conference standings functionality
  • To Chris Creamer and his totally fabulous sportslogos.net site. And thanks to everyone who uploaded a logo to his site.
