The dock will display the record for the current season, even if you're viewing data for a past year.
The monthly schedule for the selected season is displayed. If in "schedule" view, the next and previous buttons will cycle through the months available. In "conference standings" view, the next and previous buttons will cycle through the years available. When the widget loads, the month displayed will be set to the current month and the season year will be set to the current season.
To view the conference standings, select "View standings by conference" or "View standings by division". To return to schedule view, select "View schedule/results" from the context menu; this menu item will only appear if you are viewing the conference standings. You may switch between conferences by selecting the appropriate context menu item; "Show Western conference" will appear when you are viewing the Eastern conference, and "Show Eastern conference" will appear when you are viewing the Western conference. When you first switch from schedule to conference view, the conference for the team you have selected is displayed.
As mentioned above, the selected season defaults to the current season. To change the season, change the "year" from the Preferences window. Entering a year of "2002" will display the 2002-2003 results, "2003" will display the 2003-2004 results, etc. Available past seasons include: 2002-03, 2003-04, and 2004-05. Teams may not have data for some previous seasons, or may not have data for all columns.
Schedule will update as times and scores become available. By default, data is refreshed when the widget is loaded, when you select Refresh" from the context menu, and when you save your Preferences. You may also, via the Preferences, set the data to refresh when the schedule is maximized.
Data is scraped from ESPN.
Logo position and size (starting with version 1.3.4) are configurable. The logo can be placed at any of the corners, allowing you to align the widget against any edge of the screen.
Columns displayed and background opacity are configurable.
Double-click the logo to minimize or expand the schedule. You may also click on the minus and plus images to minimize or expand the schedule.
Hovering over the logo will display the "Last Updated" time in a tooltip.
From the Preferences window, you can tell the widget to check for a newer version on startup. You can also check for updates by selecting "Check for newer version" from the context menu.
Notes
- Prior to the 2006-2007 season, the widget would allow you to select whether data was scraped from ESPN or the AOL NBA site. The AOL NBA site drastically changed their layout, and I am no longer able to scrape their pages. Therefore, data is now scraped from ESPN.
- Since it scrapes data from a live web page, this widget will break if that web page changes its format. I'm, uh, not really a sports fan. With the exception of my Georgia Tech and Redskins widgets, I don't run any of my sports widgets. If something is broken, please contact me and I will attempt to fix it.
Thanks
- To the fine people behind www.ajaxload.info, which I used to generate the new (well, new in August 2007) "loading" graphic that is optionally displayed when data is being retrieved
- To Carlos Navarro and Bill Absher for beta-testing
- To Chris Creamer and his totally fabulous sportslogos.net site. And thanks to everyone who uploaded a logo to his site.
